“When we talk about mental health and substances, we have to come from a place of empathy and compassion, we don’t know each other’s stories. Our goal is to encourage our peers to make healthy choices and seek help.”
Suicide Prevention, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians
Generation Schools Network (GSN), in partnership with Cherokee Central Schools and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, has secured a five-year Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) grant to support youth suicide prevention efforts. This initiative will provide critical resources, culturally relevant programming, and key personnel to enhance student well-being. By aligning with the 7 Cherokee Core Values and engaging community partners, the program fosters a collaborative, proactive approach to mental health. With dedicated roles in schools and law enforcement, this initiative strengthens support systems, ensuring that every Cherokee youth has the opportunity to thrive.
